Learn more about our pastoral care

‘The pastoral care of pupils is outstanding in all the age groups and, together with the excellent arrangements to ensure their welfare, health and safety, are strengths of the school. These elements contribute to the resounding success with which the school meets its aim to create for pupils a friendly and caring community, and promote the pupils’ excellent personal development.”
Independent Schools’ Inspection Report 2011

Benefits of the Diamond Model

Combining the best of single-sex education with all the benefits of co-education, our boys and girls are taught separately for their academic studies between the ages of 11 and 16. We adapt our teaching styles and subject content to the particular needs of boys and girls during these precious years, the period of life when gender differences in attitudes to work, and approaches to learning, are most pronounced.

Music for all

“The range of musical activities is wide-ranging and all embracing. The pupils are enthusiastic about their involvement which makes the job of coaching them so much more enjoyable.”

Mr Andrew Wheeler, Director of Instrumental Studies

Drama at GSAL is vibrant and flourishing

We have a purpose built Theatre and Drama/Dance studio where boys  and girls study and perform together. This is a unique opportunity for GCSE level students at GSAL to undertake challenging work in a mixed-gender environment. At AS and A2 level we follow the AQA specification where students may choose skills such as acting, lighting and costume design, set design and mask design.
